Since 2003, Jim Lowenburg has operated Running Creek Farm, a small market-farm located in Mt. Healthy. Jim will share some of the essential tools he has used to successfully grow his business over the past 14 seasons. Running Creek Farm has steadily built the farm business, while intentionally keeping it to a small-scale, manageable operation.
Over time, Jim has developed the growing space from a small backyard garden to about an acre of vegetables and flowers. In 2012, Running Creek Farm erected a 24 foot x 100 foot high tunnel to extend the growing season, beginning earlier in the spring and growing into the winter months.

At the workshop, Jim will share tips and tactics, along with successes and challenges on the farm.
The workshop will allow you to understand what has worked for Running Creek Farm, and will include a roundtable discussion for asking questions and sharing ideas.

Workshop topics will include:
1. Discussion of various growing systems for small-scale farming
2. Planning techniques – planning for the next season, and planning for future growth
3. Basic strategies towards developing markets for your product

Take home message: Careful management of both the business and farming sides grows farm profits!

Sponsored by Cultivate! Ohio Valley (formerly OHREI: Our Harvest Research and Education Institute) 1st in Winter Workshop Series.
